NOVEMBER 2008

Fall has finally arrived in Austin and the children of Child’s Way are excited about the change in the weather, their pumpkin patch and all the fun things that come with this great season.

Child’s Way is planning to undergo a special project in our landscaping.  We would love to implement small garden plots on campus, so that every class would be responsible for the initial planting and the maintenance of each garden.

If there any garden lovers out there,    we welcome you to come forward and join a committee of parents, grandparents, etc. who would help us get started.  We plan to use this project to educate the children in several subject matters, such as science, math and geography.  If there are any professional landscapers in our CW family, we would love to speak to you about donations or purchases of good organic soil and other necessary items to make this dream possible for all the children.

The pumpkin patch at the school could never be possible without your help and support.  Our younger children absolutely love the transformation of their classrooms as well as the campus.

Many thanks to our chairperson, Ms. Beth Benavidez, for organizing our Child’s Way team that will participate in the annual Susan G. Komen, Race for the Cure event, on Sunday, November 2nd.  We look forward to the camaraderie, and the passion we all share in finding a cure one day for this dreadful disease.  Please join us, and I promise, you will enjoy sharing in the rewards and be back each year. I’d like to share a bit of info concerning this event.  Seventy-five percent of donations stay in the Austin area, going to organizations that provide mammograms, diagnostics, treatment and support services such as transportation, meals and support groups.  The rest goes to the national organization for research.

This month brings many fun activities, therefore, mark your calendars and plan to have fun with us as we welcome in the new season.

We count our blessings each year as we start a new school year with the wonderful family support we get from each of you and believe me we are extremely thankful for all you do for us, especially for sharing your precious child with us. Unfortunately, there are many families in Oak Hill as well as in the city that are not as privileged as we are to have the lifestyle that we have.  We would like to take advantage of this time of the year to teach the children the importance of sharing with those less fortunate, in the way of a canned food drive.  The children will decorate a box in their classroom as they fill it with can goods.  Please involve your child in this project and explain to them just how special this is in sharing with others. The filled boxes will be delivered to the Oak Hill food bank in time for Thanksgiving.

Original Works Art Fundraiser:  Many thanks, to Ms. Amy Bouck (Zoe’s Mom) for chairing this special project.  We appreciate all your support and all the effort you put into our only fundraiser. Please make sure that you turn in your order by Monday, November 3rd.

Special Announcements:  We truly love to see the parent’s with their children play after hours on our playground, but we must ask that you NOT play on the playground where the STAY & PLAY children are.  This has caused much confusion for the teacher in charge of the children in S&P.  Please have your children clean-up whatever was taken from the drawers, such as puzzles, dress-up clothes, kitchen items, dolls, etc.  We really appreciate your cooperation and total support in keeping our playgrounds tidy and organized.

SEE AND SAVE:  Leaving a child in a vehicle for any more than 5 minutes is against the law in Texas.  We have witnessed that this is happening in our parking lot, and we must warn you that we are obligated to report these happenings.  *Never leave your child unattended in a car, even if the windows are down or the A.C. is on.  We invite you to call the school phone and ask for assistance in either bringing your child to a classroom or taking your child to the car at the end of the day.  We ask that you follow that same procedure when you have a sick child with you, so that you do not enter the school with the possibility of contamination.
