Dawn Crowell
Hello there! My name is Dawn Crowell and I am the infant room lead teacher. The 2009 – 2010 school year will be my fifth year teaching at Child’s Way. I am looking forward to spoiling all of the babies in my class.
I moved to Austin in 2004 with my husband, David, of 16 years and my 13 year old daughter, Morgan, from a small town just outside of Houston named Tomball. I am enjoying living in Austin tremendously.
I have 16 years of experience in child care ranging from infants, to teaching pre-k to being the director of a small child care center for three years. I have enjoyed all my time in the child care field, after directing for a time I really began to miss the classroom, so here I am. To me nothing can replace the great feeling you get after a rough morning and one of the babies in the classroom gives me a big smile and the best hug ever.
My hobbies include spending time with my family, making candles, crafting of any kind, and reading. I am a huge Harry Potter fan. I love to read anything mystical and magical. My daughter and I are currently fighting over who gets to read the next book in the Twilight series first.
Some fun facts about me? Well, I am a vegetarian, I collect fairies and stars, my favorite color is purple, and I love the smell of cinnamon and cloves. I am looking forward to an awesome year and many more to come at Child’s Way.

Valerie Heikes
Hi. My name is Ms. Valerie and I am the assistant teacher in the infant room here at Child’s Way. I feel very blessed to have found such a creative, fun and rewarding place in which to re-enter the workforce. When I applied for this job, I was struck by the caring teachers and staff, the sounds of engaged learning in the classrooms and this schools overall commitment to provide each child with a safe, nurturing environment where he or she can learn and play and explore.
For the past 12 years I have been a stay at home mom busying myself volunteering at my children’s schools and in my neighborhood. Before that, I worked primarily in the public health field. I have lived in Austin for the past 9 years with my husband and our two children and hope to call this home for many years to come.
It’s my intention to bring a lot of love and fun and energy to the classroom each and every day. I am also big on good manners. A please and thank you go a long way in life and it starts right here with the “babies.” Art projects, singing songs and storytelling are also big passions of mine and I am so happy to have little people in my life again to share these gifts with.
